Joint Meeting of Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society and SOLARIS Users

Joint Meeting of Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society and SOLARIS Users

On 9-11 September 2020, the first joint meeting of the members of the Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society (PTPS) and users of the SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre (NCPS SOLARIS) will take place.

The meeting is the fruit of many years of productive collaboration between the PTPS and SOLARIS.

Since 1991, the Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society has organised a biannual National Symposium of Synchrotron Radiation Users (KSUPS). Thanks to the efforts of the scientific community, organised in the Polish Synchrotron Consortium and the members of the Society, in 2010 works were begun on the construction of the SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre in Kraków. Since 2018, research groups from a variety of institutions, including institutions based outside of Poland, have been conducting experiments on the beamlines of the SOLARIS synchrotron, which has become an outstanding research centre in the national scientific landscape. SOLARIS is constantly expanding its offer and recently, in addition to the synchrotron, it also offers the most advanced Cryo-EM facility in Poland.

The joint meeting is an evolution of the National Symposium of Synchrotron Radiation Users and ushers in a new tradition. The management of the PTPS decided to change the format of the national symposium and include synchrotron users, a change made possible thanks to close cooperation with the SOLARIS Centre,” says professor Wojciech M. Kwiatek, chairman of the PTPS.

“The aim of the joint meeting is to present the latest achievements of the centre and to facilitate exchange of experiences in conducting research with the use of synchrotron radiation. Annual meetings of this type are among the best practices of other synchrotron centres, and additionally allow us to promote and publicise the types of research techniques which are available at a given centre,” says professor Marek Stankiewicz, director of the SOLARIS Centre.

The discussions and lectures will be accompanied by a poster presentation session and by a tour of the SOLARIS facility. The meeting will take place on the Campus of the 600th Anniversary of the Jagiellonian University Revival in Kraków.

In a short time, the acceptance period for participation forms and abstracts of presentations for the event will begin. Detailed information about the conference can be found on the websites of the PTPS and SOLARIS Centre.owych PTPS oraz SOLARIS.
