The contract for the most important element of the SOLAIR beamline was signed

Contract for the design, manufacture, and delivery of a modified VK1 vacuum chamber and the first M1 mirror for the SOLAIR beamline was recently signed. The contractor will be FMB Berlin.

The M1 mirror is the first part of the SOLAIR beamline front end, it will be used to extract infrared radiation from the synchrotron radiation to the outside of the VK1 vacuum chamber (where the electron beam is located).

The M1 mirror will be inside the VK1 vacuum chamber, it will allow placing  the M1 mirror in a close distance to electron. Precise mirror motion manipulation will be ensured by a specific mechanism. In order to prevent mirror destruction by high-energy radiation, it will be equipped with an appropriate slot, and thermocouples for temperature measurement. The delivery and installation of the VK1 chamber with the M1 mirror are planned for the end of 2021.

Next beamline components will be mirrors (M2 - M6 with vacuum chambers), which this time will be used to focus and direct infrared beam outside the wall of the accelerator.

More information about the SOLAIR beamline and detailed information about the M1 mirror is available here.
