National Cryo-EM Centre
The heart of the National Cryo-Em Centre, which is being developed in SOLARIS, will be Titan Krio G3i, the latest generation of a cryo-electron microscope. The Centre is the result of the joint initiative of a consortium consisting of 17 of the best Polish scientific institutions conducting research in structural biology.
The consortium operates under the direction of Dr Sebastian Glatt (Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków) and Dr Marcin Nowotny (International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw).
The creation of the Centre will allow Polish researchers to join the community of global leaders in structural biology.
The components of the cryo-microscope arrived at the SOLARIS Centre just before the end of 2018. Preparation of the laboratory space and installation, calibration and optimization of the device will take several months. The cryo-microscope is planned to
be made available to its first users in Autumn 2019. At the moment, a procedure for applying for access to the cryo-microscope is being prepared. The firs call for proposals is planned to be open in September 2019.
The project is financed by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
