National Cryo-EM Centre

The heart of the National Cryo-EM Centre established in SOLARIS, is the newest generation cryo-electron microscope Titan Krios G3i. With the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, it was possible to purchase a second microscope Glacios with the latest generation detector Falcon4. The Center is an initiative of a consortium consisting of 18 best Polish scientific institutions that conduct research in the field of structural biology.

The official opening of the National Center for Electron Cryomicroscopy took place on March 1, 2019, during the First Congress of the Cryo-EM Consortium - an organ bringing together structural biology specialists from all over Poland.

The Consortium operates under the leadership of Sebastian Glatt, Ph.D. (Malopolska Center for Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland) and Marcin Nowotny, Ph.D. (International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Warsaw, Poland).

The activities of the National Center for Electron Cryomicroscopy enable Polish researchers to join the group of world leaders in structural biology.

Support in the preparation of samples for research is provided by the Structural Biology Core Facility. The team consists of employees of Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology Jagiellonian University.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
