National Cryo-EM Centre
The heart of the National Cryo-Em Centre, which is developed in SOLARIS, is Titan Krios G3i, the latest generation of a cryo-electron microscope. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, it was possible to purchase a second cryomicroscope, Glacios, with the latest generation Falcon4 detector. The Centre is the result of the joint initiative of a consortium consisting of 18 of the best Polish scientific institutions conducting research in structural biology.
The official opening of the National Center for Electron Cryomicroscopy took place on March 1, 2019 during the First Congress of the Cryo-EM Consortium, a body gathering structural biology specialists from all over Poland.
The First Cryo-EM Consortium Meeting
The consortium operates under the direction of Prof. Sebastian Glatt (Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków) and Dr Marcin Nowotny (International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw).
The creation of the Centre will allow Polish researchers to join the community of global leaders in structural biology.
