Cryo-EM Consortium Meeting

Following the Ministry of Science and Higher Education's decision to grant financing of the Cryo-EM microscope and as a result of the decision to establish the National Electron Cryomicroscopy Center in SOLARIS, on March 1st 2019 a meeting of eighteen partners of the Cryo-EM consortium was held.

Apart from representatives of the leading scientific institutions in Poland in the area of structural biology, the special guest of the meeting was Prof. Carlo Rizzuto, the Chair of the CERIC-ERIC. Prof. Rizutto gave speech about the importance of the formed Centre for the development of the research infrastructures in Central-Eastern Europe.

During the meeting, the technical details of the microscope were discussed. One of the subjects of delivered presentations was also how the infrastructure will function and how it will be made available to future users. The separate part of the discussion was devoted to the explanation of the connections between the cryo-EM technique and the experimental crystallographic beamline SOLCRYS, which is going to be built in SOLARIS soon. In the summary, Dr. Sebastian Glatt - project leader, discussed in details the mission and the visions of the emerging Center. He listened to the suggestions of the guests and he answered these questions. The official meeting of the members of the Cryo-EM Consortium ended with the celebration and the toast at the  laboratory under construction site area.
