First light on XMCD beamline
On December 6, 2019, the first beam of photons was directed into to the beamline with the working name of XMCD.
The light was taken out of the synchrotron through one of the branch of the beamline (from the mirror chamber in the hutch to exit slits). Behind the slits a scanning x-ray transmission microscope (STXM) will be installed in 2020.
The source of synchrotron light for the beamline is an undulator. In addition to the scanning transmission X-ray microscope, it will offer scientists a photoemission electron microscope (PEEM) and an octupole station. STXM will allow chemical analyzes at the nanoscale, while PEEM - surface imaging of chemical, electron and magnetic properties of samples.
The beamline will be used in nanotechnology, physics, chemistry, biomedical and material engineering, catalysis and environmental research.
