STXM microscope in 7th call for proposals

STXM microscope in 7th call for proposals

For the seventh time in our history, we are opening a call for proposals. We are happy to announce that for the first time the STXM (Scanning Transmission X-ray Microscope) microscope will be available for external users.

Scanning transmission x-ray microscopy (STXM) combines x-ray microscopy and near edge x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (NEXAFS). This combination provides spatially resolved bonding and oxidation state information. For more information please take a look on our webpage.

As in the previous calls on SOLARIS also are available the PEEM end station (a photoemission electron microscope), the XAS end station (X-ray absorption spectroscopy), the UARPES end station (ultra angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy), the PHELIX (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy) and the Titan Krios G3i cryo-electron microscope.

In the middle of the year, the PEEM microscope will be transferred to the new beamline DEMETER (currently is working on the XAS beamline). The source of the DEMETER beamline is the EPU undulator (elliptically polarizing undulator). For users, this change will provide easier control of the photon beam polarization and it will expand research opportunities.

If you are not sure, whether your experiment is feasible, or you are a new user and you have questions about how to prepare the sample, we recommend phone contact with beamline scientists:

  • the UARPES – dr Natalia Olszowska, phone, +48 12 664 41 72 or Marcin Rosmus, phone: +48 12 664 41 26,
  • the XAS – dr Marcin Zając, phone, +48 12 664 41 59
  • the PEEM – dr Tomasz Giela, phone: +48 12 664 41 35, dr inż. Anna Mandziak tel.  +48 12 664 41 03
  • the PHELIX– dr Magdalena Szczepanik-Ciba, phone: +48 519-307-867 or Tomasz Sobol, phone: + 48 12 664 41 46
  • the STXM -  dr Krzysztof Matlak, phone: +48 12 664 41 24, dr inż. Anna Mandziak phone:  +48 12 664 41 03
  • the cryo-microscope – dr Michał Rawski, phone: +48 12 664 41 04; dr inż. Paulina Indyka phone: +48 12 664 41 04, dr Sebastian Glatt, phone: +48 12 664 63 21.

However, if you have any organizational issues, please contact the SOLARIS User`s Office, phone: +48 12 664 41 99.

Access to SOLARIS is free of charge for all non-proprietary research. User groups from outside Poland may apply for a reimbursement of travel costs (thanks to CALIPSOPlus project).

The call is open from March 1st, 2021 till Aprill 1st, 2021.
The spring call is for experiments to be performed from September 2021 till February 2022.
