Prof. Paul Dumas & Ferenc Borondics as guests of the SOLARIS Center

Prof. Paul Dumas & Ferenc Borondics as guests of the SOLARIS Center

Professor Paul Dumas has been involved in the design of optical systems and research infrastructure for more than one infrared experimental beamline around the world. He also specializes in the use of infrared radiation in research of archeology, cultural heritage as well as biology and medical diagnostics. Together with Dr. Ferenc Borondics, head of the infrared experimental beamline at SOLEIL, they discussed the construction solutions and assembly of the front-end on the SOLAIR beamline.

Prof. Paul Dumas, for many years associated with the SOLEIL synchrotron in Essonne, France, is involved from the very beginning in the construction of the SOLAIR infrared beamline. He simulated the beam path and designed the elements of the optical system, which, together with the accompanying infrastructure, will constitute the front-end, allowing the extraction of the infrared radiation beam.

In September this year, the SOLAIR beamline staff, together with specialists in the field of motorization of mirrors, had the opportunity to observe a similar systems operation installed in the SOLEIL synchrotron, learn about the infrared beamline functioning and discuss design issues. Visit of Prof. Paul Dumas and Dr. Ferenc Borondics at SOLARIS, allowed to discuss further aspects related to the design and assembly of the SOLAIR front-end. They also shared their valuable experience related to the functioning of an already operational infrared beamline in a French synchrotron.
