The second beamline is under construction

The second beamline is under construction

The National Research and Development Centre has granted funds for the construction of the second beamline of SOLARIS, UARPES. The name of the beamline, UARPES is formed by the combination of the first letters of the name of the technique: Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy and the letter U for ‘ultra’ which stands for the unique research opportunities.

The main research areas of this beamline are physics of superconductors, semiconductor physics, the study of new electronic materials, studies of low-dimensional materials, the study of nanostructures.

The ARPES beam station is canonical equipment of the synchrotron radiation source of the third generation. There are several lines/stations dedicated to ARPES technique around the world. Seven of them were created in the last five years; four more lines are being built or planned. All operational stations are working at their full capacities but the queue of interested researchers is still growing. The coordinator of UARPES beamline, Prof. Jacek Kołodziej (Jagiellonian University) indicates that 21 Polish scientific teams are interested in conducting research on the UARPES line.

Another beamline currently under construction is the PEEM/XAS beamline.

The SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre is intensifying its effort to raise funds for new beamlines, which will allow our synchrotron to rise to its full potential.
