Synchrotron components arrive at SOLARIS
More and more parts required for the assembly of the SOLARIS synchrotron are arriving at Kraków. Mid-December 2013, SOLARIS received the most important part of the linac, i.e. accelerating units.
The supply of these components was quite a complicated process because it required a substantial commitment of a large part of the SOLARIS team. Apart from that, before we received these elements, we had to prepare appropriate storage space and supervise the shipment from Research Instruments GmbH in Germany. Special care was taken during unloading since each of the three parts weighted more than a tonne - said Paweł Borowiec responsible for high-frequency systems of the SOLARIS project.
Assembly of these elements will be possible only upon the completion of the works inside the building and finalizing the remaining deliveries of linac components.
Our warehouse systematically fills up with devices necessary to generate vacuum for both the linac and storage ring. We already have parts of the pump for the linac. One of the vacuum technology suppliers, Trinos, is going to deliver all vacuum chambers required for linac sections and for the transfer line soon. These works are supervised by Jaroslaw Wiechecki, the coordinator of mechanical engineering and vacuum systems in the SOLARIS team.
Most contracts for other major synchrotron elements have already been signed and are currently at the production stage. Apart from that, some items have already been manufactured but their delivery has to be held up until all necessary construction works inside the building are completed.
As soon as all components are manufactured and delivered, SOLARIS Centre engineers can start the vital task, the assembly of the synchrotron.
