Electron beams reach the storage ring

Electron beams reach the storage ring

Another milestone behind the SOLARIS team: in May 2015 electron beams reached the first section of the storage ring.

After the beam had passed through the entire linear accelerator successfully, we knew that the linac was working properly. Now, when it has reached the synchrotron, we are sure that the transfer line linking the linac to the synchrotron was correctly mounted and positioned – said dr. Adriana Wawrzyniak, the main accelerator scientist in SOLARIS. Our next goal is to shoot electron beams through the all twelve magnets, maintain them within the orbit of the ring, and gradually increase their energy.

The bright spot that can be seen in our picture is the image of electron beams registered in the SOLARIS synchrotron. The energy generated in the beams amounted to 320 MeV.
