The opening ceremony of the SOLARIS Centre

The opening ceremony of the SOLARIS Centre

On 21 September 2015, the opening ceremony of the SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Center took place in the experimental hall of the Kraków synchrotron.

The ceremony was attended by three hundred guests, including representatives of central and local authorities, rectors of Kraków's universities and scientists from Poland and abroad. Among the most important guests was a delegation from the Swedish MAX IV Laboratory, the main partner of SOLARIS. The Kraków synchrotron is a replica of one of the two storage rings being built in Lund. Swedish scientists provided SOLARIS with their innovative design of the storage ring.

The event was enhanced by a multimedia show, accompanied by sound and lights on six screens placed on the synchrotron storage ring. Later, the guests watched a film about the first Polish Synchrotron.

The honorary patron of the event was the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Mrs Ewa Kopacz.

Media patrons: TVP KrakówRadio Kraków, and kopalniawiedzy.pl.
