Electrons in synchrotron reached their target energy

Electrons in synchrotron reached their target energy

On 1 October 2015, inside the synchrotron, a 20 mA current of electrons was accelerated to its target energy of 1.5 GeV.

Furthermore, the energy of the circulating electrons was increased in the storage ring to its nominal energy of 1.5 GeV. This means that the program created to increase the energy of the electron beams was functioning properly, as were the electromagnets located within the storage ring.

This is the next milestone for the project, bringing the moment when the device and its beamlines can be handed over for the use to researchers considerably closer. The success achieved today is further proof that the years of hard work will bring the desired results.

The next important stage will be the accumulation of higher currents (the synchrotron is planned to operate at 500 mA) and the testing of the measuring beamlines.
