The fourth beamline for the SOLARIS synchrotron

The fourth beamline for the SOLARIS synchrotron

In May 2016, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education awarded grant to the SOLARIS Center for the construction of PHELIX beamline.

PHELIX beamline will use soft X-rays. Its source will be APPLE II undulator with permanent magnets. This type of insertion device gives the opportunity to obtain a variable polarization of light: linear polarization at any angle as well as circular and elliptical polarization. Currently, the PHELIX beamline is at an advance stage of design.

The PHELIX end-station will enable a wide range of spectroscopic and absorption studies characterized by different surface sensitivity. Besides collecting standard high-resolution spectra, it will allow, e.g. for mapping the band structure in three dimensions and for detecting the spin in three dimensions.

The coordinator of the PHELIX beamline is prof. dr hab. Jacek Szade, the University of Silesia in Katowice (the A.Chełkowski Institute of Physics, the Solid State Physics Division).
