Meeting of Scientific Advisory Committee

Meeting of Scientific Advisory Committee

On 9 and 10 April 2019, SOLARIS hosted a meeting of its newly established Scientific Advisory Committee.

The SAC consists of five distinguished researchers working at foreign synchrotron centres: Nils Mårtensson from Uppsala University, Petra Rudolf from the University of Groningen, Paweł Grochulski from the Canadian Light Source, Maya Kiskinova from Elettra Synchrotron Trieste and Paul Dumas z from Synchrotron SOLEIL.

The members of the committee were welcomed by Prof. Marek Stankiewicz, who thanked professors for their willingness to assist the further development of the Kraków synchrotron. On behalf of the Jagiellonian University authorities, the participants were addressed by the JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds. Prof. Stanisław Kistryn stressed the role of scientific advisory boards in guiding the development of research institutions, providing the International Advisory Board of the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology as an example of such fruitful cooperation. The creation of the committee was also applauded by the President of the Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society Prof. Wojciech Kwiatek, who expressed his conviction that its activity will effectively foster the further development of the Kraków facility. The SOLARIS team presentations and subsiquent discussions focused on the functioning of the Kraków synchrotron and the plans for the further development of the facility.

The SOLARIS Scientific Advisory Committee has been modeled after similar solutions introduced at foreign synchrotron centres. Its main goal is to create recommendations regarding visions for further development of the research infrastructure and assess the functioning of the facility.

The Scientific Advisory Committee at the SOLARIS Centre will meet at least once a year.
