Front end of SOLABS beamline installed

Front end of SOLABS beamline installed

At the end of April 2020, the installation of the front end section for the SOLABS beamline was completed.

The section is located in the storage ring tunnel and its basic functions are: protection of personnel and equipment against radiation as well as reduction of thermal load on components behind the section. The installed components link a synchrotron radiation source (in this case a bending magnet) with a beamline located in the experimental hall. This is a big step towards the investment's completion. The first delivery of X-ray optics is planned for August 2020. Currently, the SOLARIS team is working on the design of the beamline, as well as on its infrastructure elements.

The SOLABS (XAS-HN) will use photons in a wide range of energy (1-12 keV), which will allow measurements to be made on the absorption edges of many elements. The end station will be used for fundamental and applied research in materials science. Spectroscopic measurements will be able to be carried out regardless of the state of aggregation (solid, liquid, gas). It will also be possible to change the sample temperature and to measure the signal using a fluorescence detector.

The leader of the project, thanks to which the research infrastructure will be built, is Hochschule Niederrhein, University of Applied Sciences from Germany, while the project partner - Synchrotron Light Research Institute from Thailand.
