Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow offers 2 PhD scholarships for 48 months in a TopoTin project financed by the National Science Center (NCN) in the research group of Surface Nanostructures.

Qualifications:

M.Sc. in physics, chemistry or a similar discipline;
Interest in solid state physics, electronic band structures and/or magnetism;
Ability to work both independently as well as a part of a team;
Fluent English (both spoken and written);
A successful candidate will have to start PhD studies in Krakow School of Interdisciplinary PhD Studies (KIDS);
Knowledge of ultrahigh vacuum techniques will be a plus;

Job description:
PhD students will become part of a research team working on the project „Topology meets magnetism: Sn-based compounds for magnetization-driven topological phase transitions (TopoTin)”.
Both PhD students will be preparing thin film samples of intermetallic compounds under UHV conditions and studying their properties: one of the PhD students will focus on the electronic properties, while the other on the magnetic properties of the samples. In addition, the PhD students will be responsible for data analysis, presentation of the obtained results during international conferences worldwide as well as preparation of the manuscripts to be published in the top international journals.
