The SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre hosted the international Sylinda Industry Workshop. The event, dedicated to industrial applications of synchrotron radiation, provided an opportunity to discuss opportunities for R&D collaboration with large research infrastructures.
The workshop, held on 14 - 15 June, consisted of two separate parts. The first day was dedicated to companies operating in the materials and chemicals sector, while the second addressed the program to companies in the biotechnology and agri-food industries.
The meeting included a series of presentations by scientists from around the world, presentations by industry representatives who use synchrotron methods on a daily basis in their operations, and consultation meetings with members of the SOLARIS team to discuss specific R&D topics as well as funding opportunities.
The workshop was held as part of an international project entitled Sylinda (Synchrotron Light Industry Applications). Sylinda project is funded by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 programme(Grant Agreement No. 952148). The project aims to increase the potential of SOLARIS, especially in terms of applied and industrial research performed using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in the tender energy range, suitable for measuring low-Z elements, and to increase the use of the synchrotron facility by industrial partners. Project partners are: Hochschule Niederrhein, the University of Bonn and the ALBA synchrotron.
Participation in the event was free of charge and detailed information on the Sylinda project is available by clicking on the active link.
