On October 2, 2018, scientists from Poland and abroad start regular research at the SOLARIS Center. The SOLARIS synchrotron provides scientists with unique research possibilities, previously unavailable in Central Europe. It took over thirty years to collect necessary funds and built the Polish synchrotron. This is the reason why the first user in SOLARIS is a breakthrough moment for Polish science.

On 29 June 2018 a cooperation agreement between the Jagiellonian University and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russia was signed. The agreement envisages the construction and operation of a Laboratory for Structural Research into Macromolecules and New Materials at the SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre.
