Machine learning-based IR imaging model for pancreatic tissue recognition developed!

Machine learning-based IR imaging model for pancreatic tissue recognition developed!

25.07.2023
Researchers from CIRI beamline built the first IR-based machine learning model for comprehensive pancreatic histopathology, based on 600 needle biopsies from 250 patients. Total number of spectra collected with FT-IR imaging was equal to 672 407 632 giving one of the biggest dataset in tissue recognition collected up to this time.

Unique properties of a new anode material for Li-ion cells.

25.07.2023
Researchers from AGH, Shanghai Institute of Space Power-Sources and the University of Silesia have conducted research on a new anode material. The material features a simple synthesis method, excellent cyclic stability and good electrochemical performance. Experimental studies have been carried out using the technique of X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS on PIRX line), and the pioneering results have been published in the journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

Tunable magnetic anisotropy of antiferromagnetic NiO in (Fe)/NiO/MgO/Cr/MgO(001) epitaxial multilayers.

27.07.2023
We report on the magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic NiO(001) thin films in epitaxially grown (Fe)/NiO/MgO(dMgO)/Cr/MgO(001) system for different thicknesses of MgO, dMgO. Results of X‑ray Magnetic Linear Dichroism (XMLD) show that together with an increase of dMgO, rotation of NiO spins from in‑plane towards out‑of‑plane direction occurs. Furthermore, we proved the existence of a multidomain state in NiO as a result of competition between the ferromagnet/antiferromagnet exchange coupling and strain exerted on the NiO by the MgO buffer layer.

Structural insights into innate immune evasion in human-infective African trypanosomes

21.06.2023
Researchers from Sebastian Zoll's group at IOCB Prague determined the cryo-EM structures of a surface protein that helps human-infective trypanosomes to evade the alternative pathway of the innate immune response.

Research on two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) formed on a tellurium-passivated InAs(110) surface

12.06.2023
Researchers from the Faculty of Physics, Jagiellonian University, in close collaboration with URANOS scientists, have studied a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) formed on a tellurium-passivated InAs(110) surface. High-resolution ARPES measurements have been performed as a function of temperature and 2DEG sheet density, to study the many-body interactions within the 2DEG. The band shapes and their widths have been discussed in detail.
