SOLARIS scientist wins prestigious award

The Foundation for Polish Science has announced the winners and runners-up of the START 2023 competition. The prestigious scholarship was awarded to Danuta Liberda, a scientist in charge of the CIRI research line. She was selected from over 600 candidates.

The START scholarships, awarded annually by the Foundation for Polish Science, are a distinction for young scientists who, although just beginning their scientific careers, can already demonstrate significant research achievements. Young scientists up to the age of 30 may apply for the scholarship.


The START Programme of the Foundation for Polish Science is the oldest scholarship programme in Poland for the best young scientists representing all fields of science. Its aim is to support outstanding young scientists and encourage them to further scientific development. Winners of the START programme in the 2023 edition will receive an annual scholarship of PLN 30,000. They can use it for any purpose.
This year, one hundred laureates were selected from a group of 660 candidates, and among them Danuta Liberda, who looks after one of the research lines at SOLARIS, was awarded second place. The award was given for outstanding research achievements.


Among this year's awardees, the largest number of researchers represents the biological and medical sciences with 28 fellowships. The University of Warsaw again topped the ranking of institutions with the largest number of award winners (14 scholarships). The Jagiellonian University came fourth, representing 7 scholarship holders.
