The National Science Centre (NCN) has published the ranking lists for the PRELUDIUM 22 call. Among the winners is Tetiana Stepanenko, MSc, a researcher who is pursuing her PhD on the CIRI beamline at the SOLARIS Centre. The winning project is "Probing Nanoscale Molecular Mechanisms in Cystic Fibrosis through s-SNOM: From model to complex systems". The value of the subsidy amounted to: PLN 209,950.

A next generation Li-S batteries that are more environmentally friendly

RNDr. Dóra Zalka is a 4th year Ph.D. student in Physics at University Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice and at the Institute of Materials Research at Slovak Academy of Sciences. She is originally coming from Hungary, Budapest. She conducts her research at the ASTRA beamline and came to the SOLARIS Centre as part of the Visegrad Grants Programme of the International Visegrad Fund. Dóra’s research focuses on developing a new generation of Li-S batteries made of more environmentally friendly materials. In addition, these batteries will have four- or five-times higher capacity and longer lifespan compared to those currently available on the market.

Dr. Peter Mojzeš Institute of Physics of Charles University, Faculty of Mathematics and Physic Charles University and Dr. Jindřich Brejcha Department of Philosophy and History of Science, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague - conducted the research on a CIRI beamline, studying how parrots produce the colors of their feathers.

An international team of scientists led by Yuri Shvyd'ko from the Argonne National Laboratory (USA) with the participation of Dr. Tomasz Kołodziej in the Nature journal has published the results of their research on the resonance excitation of the scandium-45 isomer along with a precise determination of the resonance energy. The results of their scientific experiment confirm that in order to develop ultra-precise research methods, it is necessary to conduct pioneering research using X-ray lasers.
