Unique Opportunities at the ASTRA (SOLABS) Beamline

Just recently, another milestone for the ASTRA beamline was reached by detecting the first light with the detector system of an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. This unique, compact, and specially designed vacuum X-ray spectrometer for high energy resolution fluorescence detection was recently added to the beamline and is now in the commissioning phase. The team of experts consisting of Prof. Josef Hormes, Prof. Tonya Vitova and Dr Jörg Rothe with the support of SOLARIS Team and Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce Team installed the spectrometer at the end of May.

In the first days of June, the SOLARIS Centre together with the Silesian NANO Cluster, the Foundation for Supporting Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies NANONET, organized the second meeting in the "SOLARIS Industry Day" series. Once again, we hosted users from the industrial world. This time the meeting was focused on discussing the possibilities of conducting research and development works and the development of innovation in the industry of advanced materials and nanotechnology with the use of synchrotron radiation.

Excavators and dump trucks have appeared in the area surrounding the synchrotron. The construction site facilities are slowly being created. The long-planned expansion of the experimental hall has begun. The extension of the facility is necessary to accommodate the new research infrastructure and to introduce the next key measurement techniques for Polish scientists.
