Beamline layout

POLYX beamline layout

Source

POLYX is a short beamline on a double bend achromatic 1.3 Tesla bending magnet with critical energy of ~2keV.

Vertically collimating mirror

The installation of a vertically collimating mirror is planned for the second phase of the beamline construction at a later date. The mirror will allow to obtain the optimal energy resolution of the double crystal monochromator and to increase the flux of photons entering the polycapillary optics.

Monochromator

The installation of the monochromator is planned on the first half of 2023. The monochromator will be operating in three modes:
  • white or pink mode, 1012 ph/s/mm2
  • high intensity mode: double multilayer monochromator, 1011 ph/s/mm2 (@8 keV), BW 1-2%
  • high resolution mode: double crystal Si(111) monochromator, 109 ph/s/mm2 (@8 keV), BW 2×10-4

Focusing optics

POLYX is equipped with several polycapillary devices (Helmut-Fisher and XOS) with different working distances (2.5 mm to 40 mm), focal spots (10 µm to 200 µm), transmissions (2% to 30%), and input diameters (4 mm to 8 mm). Polycapillary optical elements are accessible at POLYX beamline thanks to close collaboration with Department of Synchrotron Radiation, Institute of Physics, Jagiellonian University.

polycapillary devices

In addition, an ellipsoidal monocapillary optics (1 mm diameter) with metallic inner surface (SIGRAY) is available for experiments (working distance of 20 mm, focal spot 2 µm). Optics can be rapidly exchanged using a dedicated capillary optics revolver. Confocal XRF can be performed using additional polycapillary conical collimator.

Energy spectra
