In December 2014, the SOLARIS synchrotron RF gun produced the first electrons. The gun is the place where electrons begin their life. Then they make their way to the linear accelerator, where they are accelerated nearly to the speed of light.

On 17 June 2014, experts from the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Świerk and the SOLARIS team started the assembly of the SOLARIS synchrotron vacuum system. The linear accelerator will be assembled in the first place.

At the beginning of May 2014, the building was officially handed over to the SOLARIS team officially from the contractor, Łęgprzem. This is an important moment because the installation works and deliveries of parts and equipment necessary for the assembly of the synchrotron can intensify now.

More and more parts required for the assembly of the SOLARIS synchrotron are arriving at Kraków. Mid-December 2013, SOLARIS received the most important part of the linac, i.e. accelerating units.

The National Research and Development Centre has granted funds for the construction of the second beamline of SOLARIS, UARPES. The name of the beamline, UARPES is formed by the combination of the first letters of the name of the technique: Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy and the letter U for ‘ultra’ which stands for the unique research opportunities.
