Battery-materials research conducted by the S2E group on the ASTRA and POLYX beamlines at the SOLARIS Centre

19.12.2025
At the University of Bologna, the research group Spectroscopy, Electrochemistry and Energy (S2E), led by Professor Marco Giorgetti and co-coordinated by Dr Mariam Maisuradze, carries out research on battery materials, encompassing both anode and cathode components. They visited the SOLARIS Centre to obtain detailed structural and electronic information related to LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery chemistry, as well as to the family of high-entropy oxides (HEOs), and to investigate their degradation mechanisms using XAS and XRF techniques. The experiments were performed on the ASTRA and POLYX beamlines with support from the ASTRA beamline coordinator and scientists, as well as from the POLYX team, assisted by PhD students Chiara Nicotri and Ilario Botta.

SOLARIS becomes a member of the International Coalition Supporting Ukraine’s Research and Innovation Ecosystem

16.12.2025
The National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS has formally joined the international coalition launched by the European Commission to support the recovery, modernisation and long-term resilience of Ukraine’s research and innovation ecosystem. The coalition is a high-level international platform that brings together the European Commission, national governments, research infrastructures, funding agencies and scientific organisations to better coordinate international assistance, avoid fragmentation of support and ensure that investments in science and technology contribute to Ukraine’s strategic reconstruction and European integration.
