First meeting of the NEPHEWS project partner’s

First meeting of the NEPHEWS project partner’s

The SOLARIS Centre has inaugurated an international project integrating several European scientific communities. The first meeting of the NEPHEWS project partners was held in the first days of February in Krakow.

The main objective of the project NEPHEWS – Neutrons and Photons Elevating Worldwide Science is to provide scientists from all over the world with access to 21 major research infrastructures in Europe.
As part of the project, these infrastructures will make available a total of almost 40,000 hours of measurements on top-of-the-range test equipment. The cost of producing this research time exceeds €15m.
The project will provide 3 categories of research infrastructures: synchrotrons, neutron sources and free electron lasers. Despite some similarities, these infrastructures retain a complementary character, and each of them allows for the search for answers to different research questions. Research conducted in this type of research centers is often basic in nature, but leads to groundbreaking discoveries, allowing us to address the most important social challenges. The project will include activities related to the dissemination of knowledge about the unique research opportunities offered by the large-scale infrastructures clustered in the project in countries where such facilities are lacking. Promotional activities will be addressed mainly to young researchers in the field of broadly understood sciences.

The agenda of the NEPHEWS Kick off meeting included presentation of the action plan, project structure, communication and outreach plan, the metrics of the project Beneficiaries, TNA Users, Twinning Users and ESRs and the rules for statistical data acquisition and reporting and discussion on the DMP and update on the Consortium Agreement progress.

Among the Guests also included representatives of the Marshal Office of the Małopolska Region. Mr. Jerzy Kopeć, Director of the Department of Ownership Supervision and Economy read out, on behalf of the Marshal, a congratulatory letter to the originators of NEPHEWS project.
