SOLARIS hosts the first meeting of the NEPHEWS Supervisory Board

The SOLARIS Centre hosted the first meeting of the advisory body (SB) of the NEPHEWS (NEutrons and PHotons Elevating Worldwide Science) project from 2-4 December 2024. This project aims to develop the integration of European research infrastructures with the neutron and photon source user community, with priority from developing countries through dedicated support programmes.
The meeting brought together national representatives of neutron and photon source users from research centres affiliated to ENSA (European Neutron Scattering Association), ESUO (European Synchrotron and Free Electron Laser User Organisation) and , and representatives from leading photon source research infrastructures (LEAPS - League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources) and neutron sources (LENS- League of advanced European Neutron Sources). Participants were given an overview of the current status of the project in each area. They then discussed key aspects related to the further implementation of the project such as: the development of access to advanced research infrastructures for scientists with limited experience in their use, training initiatives, the development of joint research policies and ways to foster scientific cooperation with Africa and Ukraine.
Guests at the meeting had the opportunity to visit the laboratories and research lines of the SOLARIS Centre, which plays a key role in building international scientific cooperation networks. The meeting concluded with the development of recommendations to be submitted to the NEPHEWS project management.
Following the conclusion of the NEPHEWS SB meeting, there were parallel meetings of members and delegates of the international user organisations European Synchrotron and Free Electron Laser User Organisation - ESUO and European Neutron Scattering Association - ENSA.
By organising events of this stature, the SOLARIS Centre strengthens its position as a key partner in the European research space, supporting not only the development of science but also the integration of research communities from different corners of the world.
