A group of scientists, led by dr. eng. Joanna Chwiej (AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow) and prof. dr. hab. Zuzanna Setkowicz (Jagiellonian University), visited the POLYX beamline to conduct intriguing studies concerning the anomalies that appear in the distribution and accumulation of iron and elements associated with its metabolism in rat organs, following the administration of superparamagnetic magnetite and maghemite nanoparticles. The measurements were carried out in collaboration with dr. eng. Paweł Wróbel, AGH doctoral student Aleksandra Wilk and AGH students (Julia Kowalczyk and Lena Frankowska), and with the support of the POLYX team (dr Katarzyna Sowa, dr Tomasz Kołodziej, prof. dr hab. Paweł Korecki).

From October 23 to 25, 2024, the 7th LEAPS (League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources) Plenary Meeting took place at HFML-FELIX in the Netherlands. A large delegation from the SOLARIS Centre participated in the event, actively contributing to discussions on key challenges and the future of science based on synchrotron radiation and free-electron lasers (FEL).

From October 24 to 25, 2024, the SOLARIS Centre had the pleasure of hosting the first edition of the Cryo-EM School, a workshop that combined theory and practice in the analysis of data obtained through cryo-electron microscopy. This event was aimed at novice and future users of the Cryo-EM technique, offering participants in-depth knowledge about electron imaging and the analysis of results obtained through the Single Particle Analysis method.

October 1, 2024 marked the end of the fourteenth call for proposals for the SOLARIS Centre. Users who are granted beamtime will be able to carry out their research next spring.

The last Friday of September, the Center's calendar is always reserved for the largest nationwide popular science event - the Night of Scientists. In this year's edition, for the first time SOLARIS presented its capabilities not only in Krakow, but also in Toruń. A total of more than 1,700 people came to the SOLARIS planet!
