The autumn call for proposals is now open.
01.09.2025
On September 1st, the autumn call for proposals for beamtime at the SOLARIS Centre was opened. Researchers can apply for the opportunity to conduct their research on one of the available beamlines, such as: ASTRA, CIRI, DEMETER (PEEM, STXM), PHELIX, PIRX, POLYX, URANOS and cryo-electron microscope Titan Krios G3i. The deadline for submitting proposals will be the October 1st. of 2025 at 23:59 CET.
Innovative Research on the ASTRA Beamline
14.08.2025
A research team led by Dr. hab. Eng. Sebastian Molin from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications, and Informatics at Gdańsk University of Technology (Bartłomiej Lemieszek, M.Sc. Eng., and Muhammad Tasaduq Ilyas, M.Sc. Eng.) has conducted the first high-temperature in-situ tests on the ASTRA beamline. The tests focused on materials intended for use as oxygen electrodes in solid oxide cell (SOC) technology. The research was carried out under the supervision of scientists of the ASTRA beamline. The testing setup was based on a measurement and heating system designed and 3D-printed using ceramic Al2O3. This approach allows for flexible shaping of the system, optimized material usage, and reduction of waste and unnecessary costs.
Stable liposomes of the future - research on chitosan-based nanocarriers using the SOLARIS Synchrotron
29.07.2025
A research team comprising scientists from the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice is conducting advanced studies on the stabilisation of liposomes—nanocarriers with a broad range of potential applications. The project is coordinated by Dr. Patrycja Rawicka (Institute of Physics, University of Silesia), Dr. Mateusz Dulski, Prof. UŚ (Institute of Materials Engineering, University of Silesia), and Dr. Marcin Wojtyniak (Institute of Physics, Silesian University of Technology), and takes advantage of the unique capabilities of the CIRI beamline at the SOLARIS synchrotron.
Modern porous materials in the service of the environment
04.07.2025
A team of scientists from Europe and Asia – Prof. Miroslav Almasi and Dr Milica Zelinska from the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (Slovak Republic), Dr Tomas Zelenka from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), and Dr Branislav Viliam Hakala from the School of Environmental Science and Technology at Dalian University of Technology (China) – is conducting research on innovative porous materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), porous oxides, and graphitic carbon nitrides (GCNs). Their joint work focuses on the application of these materials in gas adsorption, wastewater treatment, catalysis, energy storage, and biomedical applications. It was precisely the need to apply advanced structural analysis methods to these materials that brought the team to the SOLARIS Centre.
Europe in the face of global challenges – expert panel
16.06.2025
On 11 June 2025, an expert panel on the role of research infrastructures in ensuring the European Union’s technological sovereignty was held at the Auditorium Maximum in Kraków. The event brought together representatives from research institutions, national administrations, and the European Commission. The meeting was held in a hybrid format to allow for the broadest possible participation.
The panel was initiated and organised by Professor Jakub Szlachetko, Director of the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS.
