The use of synchrotron radiation in research on the visual process
03.06.2025
The National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS provides unique research opportunities, supporting innovative scientific projects carried out by Polish research institutions. One of the dynamically developing areas involves studies on chemical compounds and the mechanisms of catalytic and photocatalytic transformations, which are crucial for the advancement of modern environmental, medical, and energy technologies. In response to the growing demand in this field, in 2023 the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IChF PAN) and SOLARIS initiated a collaboration by establishing the ElectrochemistryHub platform. Its goal is to effectively utilise the potential of synchrotron research in the study of advanced chemical and biological processes, creating an innovative research infrastructure of strategic significance for science and industry.
As part of this collaboration, research on the mechanisms of 11-cis-retinol regeneration was conducted at the SOLARIS Centre by Dr Małgorzata Zienkiewicz-Machnik (IChF PAN) and Dr Anna Wach (SOLARIS), supported by the POLYX beamline team1 and collaborators from the Department of Applied Spectroscopy IFJ PAN.
